YMA presents its brief as part of the Groupe de travail sur l'avenir de l'audiovisuel au Québec's consultations

News - Intro image

YMA submitted a brief on behalf of the Ministry as part of consultations by the Groupe de travail sur l'avenir de l'audiovisuel au Québec, and presented an outline on January 15.

In response to the challenges facing the audiovisual sector, the Minister of Culture and Communications, Mathieu Lacombe, announced last June the creation of a Task Force on the Future of Audiovisual in Quebec. The Task Force's mandate is to present the Minister of Culture and Communications with concrete proposals and a specific intervention plan to ensure the sustainability, quality and influence, both in Quebec and internationally, of Quebec's audiovisual sector.

The Task Force is co-chaired by Monique Simard and Philippe Lamarre, and comprises four other members, including Sophie Dufort, Jean-Christophe J. Lamontagne, Christine Maestracci and Stéphanie Morissette.

YMA organized a major Townhall forum on December 12, 2024 to

  • Share members' realities
  • Gather ideas on the following topics:
    • Industry contraction
    • Creative financing ideas
    • CRTC consultations
    • Discoverability

Having taken the pulse of these members and people in the children's content industry at this event, the Alliance was able to draw on everyone's comments to draft the brief submitted and now available online.

SEE THE BRIEF

The brief presents our position, focusing on three points:

  • Financing,
  • Discoverability
  • Political position

For YMA and youth sector professionals, producing quality youth content is first and foremost about :

  • Creating common ground in an increasingly polarized world. At a time when consumerism is exploding, we insist that creating these products contributes to social cohesion.
  • Creating winning conditions to support our young people in building their identity, helping them to understand the world and integrate the values of our society. These are essential tools in a Quebec that is opening its doors and seeking to integrate newcomers into our society.
  • Creating strong symbols of our culture. Culture that we pass on to future generations through these products. Moments that our young people will be able to remember together in the future. We simply can't underestimate the power of the imagination here and again this week as we lost our national Fanfreluche - she who, through her delicate and inspiring persona, illustrated the transformative power of art in defying convention and teaching valuable life lessons.
