Montreal, January 20, 2025 - The YMA is pleased to announce that it has submitted a brief to the CRTC Consultation on The Path Forward - Defining 'Canadian Program' and supporting the creation and distribution of Canadian programming in the audio-visual sector.
In response to the challenges facing the audiovisual sector, the Commission is launching a consultation to modernize its definition of Canadian content as part of its broader regulatory plan to implement the Online Streaming Act and ensure the sustainability and growth of Canada’s broadcasting system. In this notice, the Commission seeks comments on the various elements of the definition of Canadian content (referred to as “Canadian program” in the Broadcasting Act) as well as on the types of expenditures that traditional broadcasting undertakings and online undertakings should make towards this content. YMA organized a major Townhall forum on December 12, 2024 to share members' realities, gather ideas on the following topics, discuss industry contraction and discoverability , find creative financing ideas, review the CRTC consultations, etc.
