Everyone remembers Quelle famille!, the iconic series broadcast on Radio-Canada between 1969 and 1974, which she co-wrote with her husband, Jean Lajeunesse. This family comedy tackled the daily challenges of Quebec families with humor and realism, helping to shape a television landscape deeply rooted in the social realities of its time. Although her work primarily focused on popular education and series aimed at adults, Janette Bertrand’s pedagogical and humanistic approach also influenced the development of youth content in Quebec.
Over the years, she has played a key role in raising awareness of social issues affecting both young people and adults. Her programs opened discussions on essential topics such as gender equality, violence, and intergenerational relationships. Her dedication to passing on values and knowledge has left an indelible mark on generations of creators and viewers alike.
The YMA recognizes Janette Bertrand as a woman of intellect and heart, whose principles and vision continue to resonate today in the mission of those who advocate for high-quality, inclusive, and meaningful youth content.
Thank you, Madame Bertrand, for your exceptional contribution to our culture and collective memory. Happy 100th anniversary!
