CALL FOR NOMINATION - Board of Directors

The Nominating Committee of the Youth Media Alliance (YMA) Alliance Médias Jeunesse (AMJ) is calling for nominations from interested individuals who are prepared to help shape the future of the children media content in Canada and guide the organization in accomplishing its mission.

We currently have open positions for up to 3 directors, up for election at the 2024 YMA/AMJ Annual General Meeting to be held on November 5th 2024 in Montreal and virtually.

The Nominating Committee of the Youth Media Alliance (YMA) Alliance Médias Jeunesse (AMJ) is calling for nominations from interested individuals who are prepared to help shape the future of the children media content in Canada and guide the organization in accomplishing its mission.

Candidates for election to the YMA/AMJ Board of Directors must be at least 18 years of age and be a member in good standing of the YMA/AMJ.

The Board consists of up to 16 people, that is up to 12 Directors and 4 Officers lead by 2 Co-chairs.

We currently have open positions for up to 3 directors, up for election at the 2024 YMA/AMJ Annual General Meeting to be held on November 5th 2024 in Montreal and virtually.

Every year at the Annual General Meeting, Board vacancies are replaced through an election by the Members. The term of office is for 3 years, subject to re-election for an additional 3-year term. The Board meets a total of approx. 8 meetings annually, held on a week day, usually one-hour virtual meetings; and a minimum of 1 face to face meeting. Board members are required to also work on Advisory Committees for a minimum of 1-hour a month; Governance, Nomination, Finance, Awards of Excellence, Conference and other adhoc committees.

The Nominating Committee performs a recruiting role in accordance with YMA Bylaws and Nomination Policy, issuing the call for candidates and overseeing the nomination process accordingly.

Based on the current board’s professional skills and background, the following additional skills would also be most welcome:

  • fundraising and sponsorship supporting Not-For-Profit organizations – the ability and capacity to fund raise.
  • strong financial literacy and expertise, with finance and accounting experience preferred
  • Legal experience
  • Lobby and government relations
  • Experience in the education world

The  Nominating Committee invites candidates with any of these competencies to apply. The YMA wishes to highlight these opportunities to reach regional and language (French and English) representation of producers and other membership categories. The Nominating Committee is also tasked with ensuring that there is reasonable representation of official languages, regions and diversity amongst the candidates.
